  • Pocahontas County Opera House 818 Third Ave, PO Box 282 Marlinton United States (map)

This summer, the enchanting shores of Prospero's island will come to life in Pocahontas County Opera House as The Rustic Mechanicals, West Virginia's premier Shakespeare touring company, presents William Shakespeare's "The Tempest." This one-time performance is scheduled for Sunday, July 14, at 3 p.m., promising an afternoon filled with magic, laughter, and a timeless tale of forgiveness and enlightenment.

Directed by renowned director Jim Warren, with the collaborative genius of Voice & Text Coach Bridget Rue Esterhuizen, Dramaturg John Shirley, and under the stunning production design of Jason A Young, "The Tempest" features a dynamic cast led by Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, who uses his sorcery to conjure a storm and exact vengeance on his usurpers. This illustrious cast includes Len Batson, Kyia McGill, Sarah Young, Morgan Sprouse, Asa Krivnov, Ashton Nardella, Stephen Phillips, and others, who collectively breathe life into this lyrical Shakespearean tale. With Production Management helmed by Seret Cole and Niki DeWitt, this play promises a spectacle of the highest caliber.

"The Tempest" is believed to be Shakespeare's final solo play, a breathtaking work that combines elements of tragedy and comedy. It is a story about human nature, power, and the capacity for both revenge and mercy. This production will transport the audience to a world where nothing is as it seems, unveiling the beauty of Shakespeare's language and the depth of his characters.

Founded in 2014 by Celi Oliveto, The Rustic Mechanicals has dedicated itself to the mission of making Shakespeare's works accessible to modern audiences. Known for their innovative casting and faithful adherence to Shakespeare's staging conditions, the troupe tours five shows annually, including their much-loved "West Virginia Shakespeare in the Park(s)" and the unique "a Play, a Pie, and a Pint" series.
